Finding a great bar to enjoy some nightlife just got easier. A new application called SceneTap is coming to Android and iPhone mobile devices. The free application puts users in touch with up-to-the-minute details on what the scene is like at their favorite bar.
SceneTap displays demographic and social information about nightlife spots. The male-to-female ratio of a crowd or average age group of a bar is displayed by the application. Nightly specials and SceneTap deals are also available.
The service will be launched in July. At first, the service will only be available in Chicago where the startup developing the application is based. SceneTap has already partnered with 50 bars in Chicago, and they are working on networks in other major American cities.
SceneTap works by collecting data from cameras installed at participating venus. The cameras use facial recognition software to anonymously gather data about the demographics of a venue.
Bar information and statistics will be integrated with map software so users can plan their bar-crawl. Venue information will be searchable by age, gender, distance, and more.
Social networking services, such as Twitter and Facebook, will be integrated with SceneTap, so users do not have to leave the application to socialize.
